How do parent-child relationships work in Mingle Sport?

How do parent-child relationships work in Mingle Sport?

A parent-child relationship connects a parent's Mingle Sport account to a child's player profile in a team. Once connected, the parent becomes part of the team with the parent role and can act on the child's behalf — RSVP for events, update their profile, and receive reminder notifications.

Parent-child connections are per team. If your child plays for two teams, you'll need to connect to their player profile in each team separately. A single player profile can have multiple parents (for example, both caregivers), and one parent can connect to several children in the same team.

How do I connect as a parent to my child's player profile?

There are two ways to connect, depending on whether you're joining the team for the first time or are already a member.

When you join the team

This is the recommended path — pick the parent role during the join flow and connect immediately.

  1. Use the 4-digit team code, invite link, or QR code to join the team.

  2. When asked to pick a role, select parent.

  3. You'll see a list of player profiles in the team. Tap Claim as parent on your child's name.

If your child's profile isn't in the list yet, a team admin can add it — see How do I add players to my team?.

When you're already in the team

If you joined with a different role (staff or team support) and want to connect to your child afterwards:

  1. Open the Team section and go to the Members tab.

  2. Find your child's name and tap the more button (three dots) next to it.

  3. Select Claim as parent and confirm the connection.

Once you're connected, the parent role is added automatically — you don't have to change your role separately.

What can a parent do in the team?

When connected to a child's player profile, you can:

  • RSVP for your child — respond to match and training invitations, set a reason for absence, and flag transport needs.

  • Edit the player profile — update name, photo, player number, positions, and biomedical data. See How do I edit a player's profile?.

  • Receive reminder notifications — if your child hasn't RSVP'd for a match or training, you get a reminder so nothing slips through.

  • Follow the team — see the schedule, results, announcements, and your child's stats the same way any team member can.

If you're connected to multiple children on the same team, you'll see RSVP and profile options for each of them separately.

Can I be both a parent and a player in the same team?

No — player + parent is the one role combination Mingle Sport doesn't allow in the same team. Every other combination is fine: parent + coach, parent + team manager, parent + team support. The parent role is assigned automatically the moment you connect to a child's player profile.

If you play for one team and parent a child in a different team, there's no problem — the restriction is per team, not across your Mingle Sport account. For more on role combinations, see How can I change my role in the team?.

What happens to the connection when someone leaves the team?

If you or your child leaves the team, the parent-child connection in that team is removed automatically. Other teams aren't affected. If either of you rejoins later, you'll need to re-establish the connection through the normal claim flow.

Troubleshooting

My child's profile is marked as "unclaimed." That just means no Mingle Sport account has claimed the player profile yet. The tag disappears as soon as you connect as a parent or your child claims the profile themselves. It's completely normal for younger players.

I joined without the parent role and can't find "Claim as parent." Check that you're on the Members tab of the right team and that your child's player profile exists — if it doesn't, ask a team admin to add it. If the option still doesn't appear, a team admin can connect you manually from Homebase.

I claimed the wrong child or a parent is linked to the wrong profile. A team admin can fix this from Homebase. See What if I claimed the wrong player profile? — the same unlink flow applies to parent connections.
