Is there a chat feature for our team?
Is there a chat feature for our team?
Yes. Mingle Sport has a built-in chat feature that works much like WhatsApp — send text messages and file attachments to teammates without leaving the app. Chat is free for every team and every member: no Team Boost required.
You'll find it under the Chat icon in the navigation bar of the Mingle Sport app, which every member has. Team admins can also use chat on Homebase (homebase.mingle.sport); members without admin rights use the app.
What kinds of chats can my team have in Mingle Sport?
Three kinds, plus a fourth if your team is part of a club:
Team chat — every team automatically gets one team chat with all team members. New members are added to it automatically when they join the team, so you don't have to manage membership manually.
Custom group chats — any team member can create a group chat with any subset of teammates. Useful for a coaches-only coordination chat, a parents-only group, a smaller squad chat for the starting eleven, anything you like. You manage the membership yourself; new team members aren't added automatically.
Direct messages (DMs) — start a 1-on-1 conversation with any of your teammates straight from the Chat tab.
Club chat — if your team is part of a club, you also get access to club-level chats. See the next section.
Can my club send announcements through chat?
Yes. Every club gets one Official Club Group automatically, with all club members in it. It's announcement-only — only the club owner and admins can post, and everyone else can react and like. This way the club can send important updates to everyone without flooding inboxes or sharing personal phone numbers. Posting happens in Club Manager on the web (club.mingle.sport); on the mobile app, members read and react but can't post in this group.
Club admins can also create custom club groups for specific segments of the club — for example *Youth Staff*, *U9–U12 Parents*, or *Senior Coaches*. Members are picked using Club Contacts. For each custom club group, the admin sets whether members can post (off by default — only the owner and admins post), reply (off by default), and like (on by default).
Club admins manage all of this from Chat Settings in Club Manager — including turning the Official Club Group on or off — and can delete any message or change a group's settings. For the full admin guide, see How do I manage chat for my club?.
ℹ️ "Club admin" means the club owner (the person who set up the club in Mingle Sport) plus anyone the owner has given admin rights to within a club group.
Club admins can also send announcements to several chats at once. These appear as announcement messages in your chats — you can react to them, but not reply. For how admins send them, see How do I send announcements to my club?.
Can I message someone on another team in my club?
Yes — if you're a club or team admin and your club has switched on Club Contacts. Normally chat is limited to your own team, but Club Contacts lets admins find and message people across every team in the club, from the Create new Chat flow.
Who you can reach depends on your role:
Club owners and club admins can message anyone in the club.
Team admins can message staff from other teams, but not players or parents from other teams.
Players, parents, and non-admin staff don't see Club Contacts.
Club Contacts is available in Club Manager on Homebase (club.mingle.sport); mobile is coming later. For the full steps and how a club owner switches it on, see How do I message people across my club?.
What can I do with chat messages?
Send text and file attachments — share match plans, photos, route info, training drills, anything you'd send on WhatsApp.
Delete your own messages — open a message you sent and delete it.
Report a message — if a message breaks the rules or makes you uncomfortable, report it to Mingle Sport.
Block another user — block someone to stop seeing their messages and to prevent them from messaging you.
Old messages stay in the chat even when someone is removed from the team — so the rest of the team's conversation history isn't broken.
Can I see who has read my message?
Yes, in group chats. Messages you send show a read count next to the checkmarks as read / total — for example 3/10 ✓✓ means 3 of the 10 other people in the group have read it. The count updates as more people open the chat. In one-to-one direct messages, you'll just see the checkmarks without a count.
How do I manage chat notifications?
Each member controls their own chat notifications independently in their Mingle Sport notification settings — turn them on or off per device, or fine-tune by notification type.
For the steps, see How do I turn notifications on or off?.
